What is the Veterans Administration (VA)?
The Veterans Administration (VA) is a government organization responsible for providing aid, support, and services to United States veterans. The VA is part of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, and is made up of the Veterans Health Administration, Veterans Benefits Administration, and the National Cemetery Administration. The Veterans Health Administration oversees medical care and services available to veterans, such as hospital care, mental health and suicide prevention, home care, and hospice care. The Veterans Benefits Administration was created to ensure that veterans receive the benefits they are entitled to, such as disability and unemployment compensation, GI bill funds, home loan guarantees, and education and vocational rehabilitation services. The National Cemetery Administration honors veterans by providing burial sites in national cemeteries, as well as providing policy direction for the operation of all VA cemeteries and memorial programs. The VA also has offices in every state and U.S. territory to provide help to veterans. These offices provide assistance with filing claims, obtaining healthcare, and applying for benefits. All veterans have access to these services, regardless of discharge status. The VA also provides assistance to veterans in the form of job training, educational assistance, career counseling, and housing assistance. The VA is dedicated to ensuring that veterans receive the benefits and assistance they have earned as a result of their military service. Through its many offices and programs, the VA works diligently to ensure that veterans receive the assistance they need to lead successful civilian lives.
