How do veterans access mental health services?
Veterans in Virginia have access to numerous mental health services through the Virginia Department of Veterans Services (DVS). In order to access these services, veterans need to apply for and receive a VA Health Identification Card. This card can be obtained by visiting your local VA Medical Center, where you will be asked to provide proof of your service and proof of your VA benefits. Once you have been issued a VA Health Identification Card, you can take it to any VA Medical Center to start the process of accessing the available mental health services. The VA has mental health professionals on staff who specialize in providing counseling and support to veteran patients. Patients can also access programs such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TFCBT), which is a type of therapy specifically designed to help veterans cope with the emotional and psychological impacts of their experiences. Other mental health services available in Virginia include Peer Support, Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Services, and Stress Disorder Services. In addition to the services offered through the VA, veterans can also seek professional help from local organizations that focus on providing mental health care for veterans. These organizations will be able to provide veterans with access to counseling and other services that may not be available through the VA. When seeking mental health services, it is important to remember that VA benefits are available to veterans at no cost, so take advantage of these services if you are in need of help. No matter what you choose to do, seeking help is important to ensure that your mental health and well-being are taken care of.
