What is the VA Pension program and how do veterans qualify?

The VA Pension Program is a benefit that provides monthly payments to veterans and their families, if they qualify. Qualifying veterans must have served at least 90 days of active duty with at least one day during a time of war, be age 65 or older, and have a limited income and assets. Veterans can also qualify for the Pension program if they are permanently and totally disabled, even if their disability is not related to their military service. They must also be age 65 or older, or be a former POW, with a limited income and assets. Surviving spouses, dependent children, and dependent parents of veterans may also be eligible for the Pension Program based on the veteran’s service. In order to apply for the VA Pension program, veterans or their families must fill out a pension application and provide proof of military service, financial information, and a doctor’s report. The doctor’s report must provide details about the veteran’s disability or age-related condition if they are applying based on disability or age. The VA Pension Program can provide veterans and their families with financial assistance, but it is important to make sure that all application requirements are fulfilled in order to qualify for the program.
