What is the VA Homeless Veterans program and how do veterans qualify?

The VA Homeless Veterans program is a special program that offers housing and healthcare assistance to homeless veterans in Washington. To qualify for the program, the veteran must be experiencing homelessness, be eligible for VA healthcare benefits, and have a low income. The VA Homeless Veterans program seeks to help homeless veterans transition into a safe and stable environment by providing housing, healthcare, employment assistance and other supportive services. The program offers temporary housing (transitional housing) as well as more permanent housing (permanent supportive housing). The goal of the program is to provide homeless veterans with access to housing, healthcare and employment opportunities that will help them become self-sustaining. In addition, the VA Homeless Veterans program offers mental health services, substance abuse treatment, and help accessing other benefits such as food stamps, Social Security and education benefits. The program works in tandem with other local and state resources to ensure homeless veterans receive the assistance they need. Veterans can apply for the program at their local VA Medical Center. The VA will review the application and determine if the veteran is eligible for the program. The veteran will then be able to access the housing and healthcare assistance that is available through the VA Homeless Veterans program.
