Yes, there are special benefits available for veterans who are veterans of the Persian Gulf War in California. The California Department of Veterans Affairs offers the Persian Gulf War Veterans Bonus Program, which provides a one-time financial bonus of up to $1,000 to veterans who served during the period of August 2, 1990, through August 31, 1991. In order to be eligible for this program, the veteran must have served in person in either the Persian Gulf theater of operations, on a ship operating in direct or supporting service in the Persian Gulf theater of operation, or with at least one day of active duty service in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, or United Arab Emirates. Along with the Persian Gulf War Veterans Bonus Program, veterans who served in the Persian Gulf War period may also qualify for other benefits including priority consideration for state-funded educational and job training opportunities, as well as re-employment rights for those veterans who were involuntarily laid off or discharged due to their service during the Persian Gulf War period. Additionally, veterans may qualify for extended healthcare coverage through Medi-Cal, as well as special loan programs such as the California Veterans Home Loan Program, and the Veterans Farm and Home Loan Program.
