What is the VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program and how do veterans qualify?

The VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program (VRE) is a program offered to veterans in the state of Louisiana by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This program helps veterans prepare for, find, and keep employment. It is a comprehensive program that addresses the veteran’s need for individualized assessment and training, work-readiness preparation, job search assistance, and other career counseling services. To qualify for the VRE program, veterans must meet pre-established criteria. Generally, the veteran must have been released from the military under other than dishonorable conditions and have an injury or medical condition that is related to their time in the armed forces. Additionally, the veteran must demonstrate that they are unable to perform the duties of their pre-service occupation due to their service-connected disability or that they require assistance in achieving a successful career transition to another occupation. If a veteran meets all of these requirements, they may be eligible for VRE services. Once a veteran is accepted into the program, they will work with a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor (VRC) to create an individualized plan to overcome their employment barriers. VRCs provide a wide range of services, including job readiness assessments, career counseling, job placement assistance, and other resources to help veterans achieve success. Additionally, the program may offer financial assistance to help veterans cover the costs of attending school or training programs as well as to purchase equipment needed for a job. The VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment Program provides veterans with the resources they need to transition back to civilian life and begin successful careers. If veterans feel they meet the criteria, they should contact their nearest VA office for more information.
