What is the VA Health Care program and how do veterans qualify?
The VA Health Care program is a program created by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that provides health care services to eligible veterans of the United States Military. The program is available in all 50 states, including Hawaii. Veterans are eligible for the VA Health Care program based on a number of factors, such as service history, disability rating, income level, and other criteria. To qualify for health care benefits, veterans must have been discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable from active duty in the U.S. military. Reserve and National Guard members who were called to active duty by a Federal order and completed the full period for which they were called are also eligible. The VA Health Care program offers a variety of medical services, including primary care, mental health services, specialty care, radiology, and inpatient health care. Veterans may also be eligible for additional benefits such as prescription medication coverage and dental care. Veterans can apply for VA Health Care benefits online or by visiting their local VA health care facility. Once enrolled, veterans can access their benefits through the Health Eligibility Center. Veterans who are already enrolled in VA Health Care may be able to use their benefits at state or private health care facilities.
