What are the differences between special monthly compensation and regular monthly compensation?

Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) and Regular Monthly Compensation (RMC) are both types of payments that are part of the Veterans Disability Law in California. SMC is a higher-level benefit than RMC and is paid to veterans who have a severe disability that requires the aid and attendance of another person. Examples of these disabilities include the loss of use of a limb, being legally blind, or being permanently bedridden. On the other hand, RMC is paid to veterans who are unable to work due to a service-related disability, including hearing loss, post-traumatic stress disorder, or musculoskeletal injuries.
