How does the government investigate whistleblower claims?

The government investigates whistleblower claims in a variety of ways. In Mississippi, the whistleblower law, or Mississippi False Claims Act, is designed to encourage individuals to report fraud and abuse against the government. If a person believes that a company or individual is committing fraud against the government, they can file a claim with the state’s Office of the Attorney General. The Attorney General’s office will then investigate the claimant’s allegations and determine if they are valid. If they are, the office will attempt to recover any money lost due to the fraud or abuse. In some cases, they will take legal action against the company or individual who committed the fraudulent or abusive act. The whistleblower will be eligible to receive a portion of the recovery, depending on how much their information helped with the case. This is to incentivize more people to report fraud and abuse. In addition to the Attorney General’s office investigating whistleblower claims, the state also has an external agency, the Mississippi State Auditor, that can be called upon to investigate complex cases. They will work with the Attorney General’s office to uncover the details of the case and determine the validity of the claim. The Mississippi False Claims Act is designed to protect whistleblowers, and to encourage more people to report fraud and abuse. The government takes whistleblower claims seriously, and is committed to investigating and prosecuting those who commit fraud or abuse against the government.
