What is a schedule award?
Schedule awards are an aspect of California’s Workers’ Compensation Law. This type of award is for injured employees who have suffered permanent and disfiguring injuries to specific parts of their body, such as the head, neck, face, shoulder, hand, arm, hip, thigh, leg, and foot. For example, if an employee loses a thumb in an accident, they may be eligible to be awarded a schedule award. Schedule awards provide a predetermined amount of compensation, depending on the specific body part that is injured. In other words, the amount of the award is not determined based on individual circumstances but rather established by the schedule itself. Additionally, the amount of the award may be subject to periodic increases and cost of living adjustments. Schedule awards are not the same as a disability award, which is another type of award under the Workers’ Compensation Law in California. Disability awards are governed by the permanent disability rating system set forth in the state. The amount of compensation awarded under the disability rating system is based on factors such as the employee’s age and occupation and the percentage of permanent disability that exists. In conclusion, schedule awards are a type of compensation available to injured employees in California under Workers’ Compensation Law. This type of award is for employees who have suffered permanent and disfiguring injuries to specific body parts, and provides a predetermined amount of compensation that may be subject to increases.
