What is the difference between wrongful termination and wrongful contract termination?

Wrongful termination and wrongful contract termination are both legal terms that refer to an employee being ineligible for continued work or compensation. The difference between the two is that wrongful termination refers to an employer terminating an employee without following the terms of the employment contract. It is illegal for an employer to fire an employee for unlawful reasons such as race, gender, or religion. On the other hand, wrongful contract termination occurs when an employer does not follow the terms of an employment contract. This could include a breach of contract, such as not paying wages or providing benefits as outlined in the contract, or terminating the employee without following the process for termination in the contract. In Tennessee, this is considered a breach of contract and the employee is entitled to damages from the employer. In general, wrongful termination is illegal and can result in the employer being sued for damages. Wrongful contract termination is not necessarily illegal, but the employee is still entitled to damages if certain conditions are met. In either case, the employer should take steps to ensure they are adhering to all state and federal laws when it comes to employee termination.
