What are the regulations governing the transport of farm animals?
In Delaware, the transport of farm animals is regulated by the Department of Agriculture. This includes all types of livestock, as well as any poultry and other domestic animals. Livestock must be transported only in vehicles that are adequately equipped and kept in good condition. All livestock must be accompanied by a health certificate for interstate transport. This document states that the animals have been examined and meet certain health requirements. The health certificate must include the species and number of animals, their date of birth and last health examination, and the state where they were examined. The vehicle carrying the farm animals must have sufficient space, ventilation, and bedding. Appropriate feeding and watering facilities must also be provided. The driver must follow a specific route that is designed to minimize stress on the animals, and the journey must be completed within 24 hours. County and state animal transport inspectors may inspect the vehicle and its contents, and may check for compliance with the animal health certificate. They may also monitor the temperature inside the cargo area and check the condition of the animals. If any violations of the regulations are found, the driver may be subject to fines or other penalties.
