What are the restrictions for transporting hazardous material on aircraft?
Transporting hazardous material (Hazmat) on aircraft in the state of Washington is heavily regulated in order to ensure the safety of passengers and crew, as well as to protect the environment. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is responsible for regulating all Hazmat transportation by aircraft, and it is forbidden to transport certain items by air. The FAA states that any combustible liquids, corrosive materials, explosives, flammable gases and liquids, and oxidizers must be properly labeled and packaged in order to be transported on an aircraft. All Hazmat must be packaged in a manner that prevents leakage and contamination, and must be accompanied by the appropriate documentation. Additionally, Hazmat must be stowed in an area that is easily accessible in the event of an emergency. In Washington, it is illegal to transport any hazardous materials on certain types of aircraft, such as ultralights, balloons, and gliders. The FAA also prohibits the transportation of certain items such as firearms, ammunition, and hazardous waste on aircraft. Additionally, the FAA prohibits the transportation of any materials that can create a fire hazard or release toxic vapors.
