What are the laws about parking in a loading zone?

Parking in a loading zone is regulated by automobile law in California. Generally, these laws state that parking in a loading zone is permitted for vehicles doing loading or unloading of goods, wares, merchandise, or other property, with certain restrictions. Loading zones are designated by special signs and yellow paint. If you are parking in a loading zone, the vehicle must have a valid license plate, and the driver must be actively loading or unloading, which means that the goods must be moved from the vehicle to the sidewalk, building, or other location within 5 minutes. The driver must also be present with the vehicle during loading and unloading. If a vehicle is parked in a loading zone for more than five minutes, it is subject to citation, and the driver could be subject to a fine. If there are repeated violations of these laws, more severe punishments such as vehicle impoundment may occur. Further, parking in a loading zone is not allowed if the loading zone is marked by a sign that expressly states that it is a “No Parking” zone. The same rules apply if the loading zone is marked with a sign that states no parking between certain times or that parking is only allowed for a certain period of time. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the laws regarding parking in a loading zone to avoid a fine or other punishment.
