What are the laws about racing on the highway?
In South Carolina, it is against the law to race on the highways. According to South Carolina Code of Laws, Section 56-5-3610, it is illegal to operate a vehicle on a highway or any public vehicular area for the purpose of racing or causing a race with another vehicle or assisting in any way with a race against another vehicle. It is also illegal to engage in drag racing of any kind. Racing on the highway can result in serious consequences, including possible jail time and large fines. Racing is considered a misdemeanor offense and is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and/or a fine of up to $100. Additionally, any person who engages in racing on a highway or public vehicular area may have their driver’s license revoked for up to one year.
