What is the process for obtaining an air carrier certificate?

In order for a company to be able to legally operate as an air carrier in North Carolina, they must obtain an Air Carrier Certificate, which is also referred to as an Air Operator’s Certificate (AOC). The process for obtaining this certificate is lengthy and involves several different steps. First, the company must file an application with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). To do this, they must provide detailed information including their name, address, the type of operation they are proposing to carry out, and their planned operating procedures. The application also includes several forms which must be filled out and submitted. Once the application has been submitted, FAA personnel will inspect the company and their operating procedures. During this inspection, the FAA will examine the company’s aircraft, personnel, and business practices to ensure they meet safety and operational requirements. Finally, upon passing the inspection, the FAA will issue the Air Carrier Certificate. This certificate allows the company to legally operate their airplanes. The company is then responsible for meeting the FAA safety standards and regulations while in operation. Overall, the process of obtaining an Air Carrier Certificate is lengthy and involves several different steps that must be taken in order to ensure the legal operation of an air carrier.
