How is air cargo regulated?

Air cargo in Indiana is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA ensures the safety of passengers and crew members on air carriers and sets standards for all aircraft operations, including air cargo. The FAA requires air carriers to develop and maintain an operations manual that outlines the procedures they must follow when transporting cargo. The FAA also enforces security regulations that are specific to air cargo. Air carriers must secure cargo in accordance with the TSA’s 12-Step Security Program or follow specific security guidelines set by the TSA. Additionally, air carriers must submit cargo manifests to the TSA prior to every flight. This ensures that dangerous cargo is identified and not loaded onto the plane. In addition to FAA regulations, Indiana has adopted the Aircraft Commerce Act, which provides additional regulations regarding air cargo. Carriers must comply with all rules and regulations of the Act, which include cargo limits, descent and cruising altitudes, and prohibited items. When transporting hazardous materials, carriers must follow Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Air cargo is an important form of transportation in Indiana, and it is important that carriers follow all applicable regulations to ensure the safety of passengers, crew members, and the public. The FAA, TSA, and DOT have put in place guidelines to ensure air cargo is handled properly and transported safely.
