What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance records?

In Utah, aircraft maintenance records must be kept by the registered owner of the aircraft. Records must be kept for every major maintenance operation, including inspection, overhaul, repair, modification, rebuilding, and any other major alteration of the aircraft. Every record must include the date of the maintenance, the type of maintenance and who performed it, the type of aircraft, the serial number and registration number of the aircraft, and any other information required by the Federal Aviation Administration in the state of Utah. All records must be kept in an organized manner, including written documentation and digital records as applicable. It is the responsibility of the owner to make sure all records are complete and accurate. Oral records are not acceptable. In addition, records must be kept for all parts and components used in maintenance and repair of the aircraft. This includes the type, description, name, and serial number of the part or component, the date it was installed, and the name of the person who installed it. Records must also include all test results conducted during the aircraft maintenance process. Finally, all records must be kept for at least one year after the date of the maintenance. However, records must be kept indefinitely for aircraft involved in air safety investigations. This helps ensure the safe operation of aircraft in Utah.
