What is the process for obtaining an aircraft registration?

In Utah, anyone who wishes to register an aircraft must first determine whether the aircraft is eligible for registration. Eligibility is determined by the state’s Title 63G, Chapter 11 - Aviation Act. Once eligibility is determined, the aircraft owner is responsible for registering the aircraft with the Utah Division of Airports and Aeronautics. The aircraft registration process must be completed in person, and the following documents must be presented: proof of insurance, proof of ownership, and a completed Aircraft Registration Form. The aircraft owner must also pay a registration fee, which is based on the aircraft’s weight and age. After the paperwork and payment are received, the aircraft will be assigned a registration number, which must be displayed on the aircraft. The registration number must be visible from the outside of the aircraft and must be kept up to date. The registration process must be renewed annually, and a renewal fee must be paid each year. Renewal forms must be submitted 30 days prior to the expiration date. Once the registration process is completed, the aircraft will have a unique registration number that identifies it as being legally registered in Utah. By registering the aircraft, the aircraft owner is also entering into an agreement with the state to abide by the regulations and laws determined by Aviation Law in Utah.
