What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance technicians?

Aircraft maintenance technicians in Utah must meet certain requirements in order to perform their duties. These requirements have been set by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as a way to ensure safety in the aviation industry. First, a technician must obtain an FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate, which certifies that they have the necessary knowledge and skills to work on an aircraft. This certificate requires two years of formal training and passing knowledge and practical tests. Once the technician has obtained their A&P certificate, they must also get an FAA Inspection Authorization (IA). The IA requires technicians to have five years of documented work experience and pass an additional written test. Also, technicians must have a valid driver’s license. An FAA Medical Examination is also required for any part-time or full-time technicians. Lastly, aircraft maintenance technicians must also receive specialized training from aircraft manufacturers. This training is mandatory for working on specific types of aircraft. By meeting these requirements, aircraft maintenance technicians become eligible to work on aircraft in the State of Utah and ensure that all aircraft operating in the skies of Utah are safe and reliable.
