What are the regulations regarding airspace restrictions?

Airspace restrictions in the state of Utah are regulated by federal Aviation Law. Under this law, certain areas of the sky are designated for general aviation, while other areas are designated for commercial and military flights. Generally, areas designated for general aviation are seen from the ground as “Class E airspace.” This airspace is meant to be shared by all users, however, due to the increased risk of collision with commercial and military aircraft, strict altitude and routing requirements have been implemented. In the state of Utah, general aviation aircraft must remain at least 2,000 feet below the established airspace ceiling for commercial and military flights or else they risk breaking the law. Furthermore, pilots flying in Utah must remain in constant communication with air traffic control and follow approved routes as specified by the Federal Aviation Administration. When necessary, air traffic control will issue operating procedures for pilots to ensure the safety of their flight. All of these regulations are in place to protect both commercial and military aircraft from interacting with general aviation aircraft, potentially causing a collision.
