What are the rules and regulations regarding pilot medical examinations?

In the state of Utah, pilots must comply with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules and regulations regarding pilot medical examinations. Pilots must have a valid FAA medical certificate in order to fly commercially or for private use. This certificate must be updated every five years for those age 40 and older, and every two years for those under 40. The FAA requires pilots to receive a comprehensive physical examination with an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) to be issued a medical certificate. This includes a review of the pilot’s current medical history and any medications they are taking. In addition, the pilot must undergo a physical examination, including eye tests and vision tests, hearing tests, and a urinalysis. In addition, the AME will check the pilot’s mental health to ensure they are fit to fly. This includes checking for psychological issues, including substance abuse and depression, and to ensure the pilot is free from any mental disorders that could interfere with their ability to fly. Utah also requires commercial pilots to be able to obtain an FAA-approved first-class medical certificate, which includes an additional physical and medical examination. This certificate must be renewed the same way as the standard certificate. Pilots in Utah must comply with all FAA rules and regulations regarding pilot medical examinations. If all requirements are met, the pilot will be issued a valid certificate and can then fly legally.
