What is the process for obtaining a flight navigator certificate?

In order to obtain a flight navigator certificate in the state of Colorado, an individual must meet certain criteria and complete a series of steps. First, the individual must be at least 18 years of age, possess a current, valid driver’s license, and have no prior criminal convictions. In addition, they must pass a knowledge test approved by the Federal Aviation Administration. This test is based on the FAA’s Aeronautical Knowledge Test and covers topics such as navigation, airspace, and aircraft performance. Next, the individual must have at least 250 hours of pilot-in-command time, including 100 hours in specific airplane categories and/or classes and at least 50 hours of night flight experience. All flight time must have been logged with an FAA-approved flight school. The individual must then submit their application to the FAA for review. The application must include a record of the required flight time and any other relevant documents. Additionally, the individual must pass a physical exam performed by an FAA-authorized medical examiner to ensure they are capable of performing flight navigator duties. Finally, the individual must pass a practical test administered by an FAA-authorized examiner. This test includes pre-flight and post-flight inspections, aircraft maneuvers, and navigation skills. Once the individual has completed all of these steps, they will be issued a flight navigator certificate that is valid in the state of Colorado.
