What is the process for obtaining an international operations authorization?
In Colorado, an entity must obtain an international operations authorization from the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Air Safety Unit in order to perform international operations. The process for obtaining an international operations authorization begins with submitting an application to the Air Safety Unit. The application must be signed by the director of operations, include details about the proposed operations, and be accompanied by the appropriate fee. After submitting the application, the Air Safety Unit will assess the request and determine whether or not the entity is eligible for an international operations authorization. If the application is approved, the organization must provide proof of FAA Part 129 or 121 certification, evidence that the aircraft is registered in the United States, and proof of sufficient insurance coverage. The Air Safety Unit will then evaluate the application and any accompanying documentation for accuracy and completeness. If approved, the organization will be granted a provisional international operations authorization. The authorization must then be renewed every 24 months, or whenever the aircraft or operations change. In addition, the organization must also comply with any international agreements that may apply to their operations. The Air Safety Unit will provide additional guidance on what is required and will also provide regular updates on any changes in aviation law that may affect international operations.
