What is the process for forming a corporation?

Forming a corporation in Washington requires several steps. First, the business must choose a unique name and register it with the state government. The name must include a corporate designation, such as “Inc.” or “Corp.”. Next, the business must create and file Articles of Incorporation. This legal document outlines the business purpose and management structure, including the number and type of directors, officer titles and duties, and other organizational provisions. Also, the Articles of Incorporation must be signed and submitted along with a filing fee. Once the Articles of Incorporation have been filed, the business must obtain a federal tax identification number from the Internal Revenue Service. This number will be used to pay taxes and report financial activity. Following this, the business must appoint an attorney or other legal representative to handle legal affairs. Finally, the business must obtain a state business license in Washington. This license is required to conduct any sort of business in the state. The business must also obtain additional licenses or permits as dictated by its industry or location. After all of these steps have been completed, the business can officially open for business.
