What restrictions are there on advertising for cannabis products?

In Mississippi, advertising of cannabis products are highly restricted. Per Mississippi Code, Section 41-29-166, advertising of cannabis or cannabis products is prohibited. Advertising of cannabis cannot include: (1) any statement sponsored by a cannabis licensee that is intended to encourage persons under 21 years of age to consume or use cannabis; (2) any statement that is false or misleading; (3) any statement that is intended to appeal to persons under 21 years of age; or (4) any advertisement in any form of media that is marketed primarily to persons under 21 years of age. Mississippi also prohibits advertising of cannabis products on state-owned or state-controlled property. This includes any highway, public building, public park, or other public place. Any advertisement of cannabis products must include a clear and visible health warning that cannabis may be habit forming. In addition, any advertising of cannabis must provide the name of the licensee and the location of the cannabis business. Finally, any cannabis advertising must be pre-approved by the Mississippi Department of Revenue before it is published. All cannabis advertising must be submitted to the Department of Revenue for review prior to its publication or distribution. The Department of Revenue has the authority to reject any cannabis advertising that it believes fails to meet the requirements stated in Mississippi Code.
