Are there any restrictions on edibles and other cannabis products for medical purposes?
In Wisconsin, medical use of cannabis and cannabis-derived products is allowed, but with some restrictions. Edibles made from cannabis products are not allowed; instead, patients can purchase cannabis products in the form of liquids, pills, oils, and topicals such as creams or ointments. The products must contain a standardized amount of THC, the active ingredient in cannabis. Additionally, a doctor must certify that a patient has a debilitating medical condition that qualifies them for cannabis-based products. For medical purposes, patients may possess up to 3 ounces of cannabis or related products that do not contain more than 0.3% THC. Patients may also possess items that contain up to 12 ounces of cannabis-infused liquids, up to 48 marijuana plants, or up to 72 ounces of marijuana-infused edibles. They cannot, however, possess any amount of edibles that have been made with marijuana flowers, leaves, oils, or other plant parts. Cannabis and cannabis-related products for medical purposes must also be in their original, unaltered form. This means that they cannot be altered in any way, including adding any additional ingredients or coloring to the product. Furthermore, patients may not transport cannabis products over state lines, and products must be purchased from an approved dispensary.
