In South Carolina, Credit Card Dispute Resolution Law (CCDRL) is in place to protect cardholders from being taken advantage of and from errors and unauthorized transactions. Under the CCDRL, you have the right to dispute a charge and have it investigated; in some cases, you may be entitled to a refund. If you believe you have been the victim of fraud, you should contact your credit card issuer as soon as possible and follow their procedures for filing a dispute. Generally, this involves filling out a dispute form and submitting supporting documentation, such as copies of the original receipts. Your credit card issuer will then conduct an investigation and review the evidence. If your dispute is found to be valid, your card issuer should refund the amount of the fraudulent charge. In addition, the CCDRL also requires card issuers to provide reimbursement of any associated fees you may have incurred as a result of the fraud. This includes fees for such services as stopping payment on a transaction or replacing a lost or stolen card. If you have an unresolved dispute with your credit card issuer, you may also have the right to file a complaint with the South Carolina Consumer Protection Division.
