Can a debt collector call me multiple times a day?
No, a debt collector is not allowed to call you multiple times a day in Washington. The Washington State Consumer Debt Defense Law provides consumer debt collection protections, including limits on how frequently a debt collector can contact you. According to the law, debt collectors may not contact you more than twice in any 7-day period. They may not contact you at any unusual time or place, or at any time known to be inconvenient to you. Furthermore, debt collectors are not allowed to contact you at work if they know or have reason to know your employer does not allow you to receive such calls. In addition, debt collectors are prohibited from harassment or abuse when communicating with you. They are not allowed to use profane or abusive language, or threaten abuse or harm. These restrictions apply no matter how often a collector contacts you. If a debt collector continues to contact you after you have asked them to stop, then you can request that communication be stopped and all further contact with you cease.
