What is an aggregate settlement in a class action lawsuit?
An aggregate settlement in a class action lawsuit is a form of legal resolution that involves a large group of people collectively receiving compensation for a shared issue or dispute. The compensation is distributed among all of the members of the class action lawsuit as well as their attorneys. In New York, a class action lawsuit is usually pursued when a company or individual has wronged a large number of individuals in the same way. The goal of a class action lawsuit is to provide justice and restitution to all of the wronged parties. In an aggregate settlement, the affected individuals may submit a claim form to receive a portion of the settlement funds. This form can usually be found on the website of the law firm representing the affected individuals. Once the claim form is submitted, the court will review and decide if the claimant is eligible for the settlement. If approved, the claimant will usually receive a portion of the funds from the class action settlement, which is determined and distributed by the court. The amount of restitution that each claimant receives from the class action settlement depends on the cash amount of the judgment, the number of claimants who submit a claim form, the cost of the legal services and any other legal fees associated with the process. Once all of the claimants are paid, any remaining funds may be donated to charity or distributed to other parties involved in the lawsuit.
