Are there consumer protections against telemarketing and spam?

In the state of Texas, there are consumer protections against telemarketing and spam. The Texas No-Call List is a law which protects Texas consumers from unwanted telemarketers. This law makes it illegal for telemarketers to call any residential landline or mobile telephone number that is on the list, unless the caller has an existing relationship with the consumer. Consumers can register up to three telephone numbers with the list, free of charge. When it comes to dealing with spam, the Texas Business and Commerce Code protect consumers from deceptive electronic communications. This law covers unsolicited emails, text messages, and other electronic contacts that use false names, false addresses, or misleading content. All of these deceptive contacts are illegal, and consumers are allowed to sue the spammers for damages. Additionally, consumers are protected from unsolicited sales calls and emails that are sent through the use of auto-dialers. In such cases, consumers are allowed to do the following: ask for proof that the auto-dialer was used, ask for proof that the message was sent, and ask for proof that the person sending the message had permission to use the auto-dialer. Overall, Texas residents have legal protection against unwanted telemarketing calls, text messages, and emails sent from auto-dialers. These laws are in place to protect consumer privacy and help maintain a safe purchasing environment.
