What is the Civil Rights Act of 1968?

The Civil Rights Act of 1968, formally known as the Fair Housing Act, was enacted in order to protect individuals from discrimination based on color, race, religion, national origin, sex, disability, or familial status when purchasing or renting housing. This act served to supplement the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibited discrimination in employment decisions and public accommodations.
