When is a debt collector allowed to contact me in person?

In Washington, debt collectors are allowed to contact you in person and come to your home or place of work if they are attempting to collect on a debt. However, the debt collection agency must follow certain guidelines that are set out by the state law. The debt collector must contact you in person between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. They are not allowed to come to your home unless it is necessary to collect the debt. They are also prohibited from coming to your home or place of work more than once a week. Furthermore, a debt collector cannot contact you in person if you have sent a written request to cease contact. If the debt collector decides to come to your house or workplace, they must provide you with a written notice of their intent. The notice must include the name of the debt collection agency and the amount of debt that is being sought. The notice also has to provide you with contact information for the debt collection agency and must specify the time and place of the visit. To protect yourself, you should know your rights under debt collection law in Washington. If you believe that the debt collector is violating these laws, you can contact the state attorney general and report your complaint.
