How do I file an ADA complaint?

If you believe you have experienced discrimination in Florida based on your disability, you may be able to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Civil Rights (OCR). In order to do this, you will need to submit an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) complaint. The ADA complaint form can be found online, and you will need to provide information about the discrimination you experienced, such as the date(s), name of the person or business, and a detailed description of what happened. You will also need to provide your name, contact information, and a statement that you believe you have been discriminated against based on your disability. Once you have submitted the ADA complaint, the DOJ’s OCR will review your complaint and notify you when they have begun to investigate your claim. It is important to note that the ADA only applies to employers, state and local governments, and businesses with 15 or more employees. If you would like to speak with an attorney or learn about other ways to file a complaint, you can contact the Florida Protection & Advocacy, Inc., an organization that provides legal assistance and advocacy services for people with disabilities in Florida. They will be able to provide advice and assistance to help you file a complaint or pursue other legal avenues to seek justice.
