What is an accommodation request?
An accommodation request is a request for an alteration in the environment that would provide a person with a disability equal access to the same environment as a person without a disability. In New Hampshire, this request must be made under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). In order for an accommodation to be considered, the person must submit an application asking for a change to a job, workplace, educational program, or other similar activity. The accommodation must be necessary for the person to be able to benefit from the activity. The requested accommodation must also be reasonable. It must also not cause undue hardship to the entity providing the accommodation. An example of an accommodation request would be an employee with a disability requesting a standing desk to minimize discomfort when performing their job duties. Accommodation requests also commonly involve requests for assistive technology, modified testing or assessment procedures, and modifications to the physical environment.
