What other benefits might I be eligible for if I have a disability?

If you have a disability in Rhode Island, you may be eligible for several benefits. These can include Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and Medicaid Health Insurance. SSI is a federal program that provides financial assistance to disabled individuals who have limited income and resources. SSDI is a federal program that pays benefits to workers who have paid into the Social Security system and have become severely disabled. Medicaid Health Insurance provides health care coverage and coverage for medical equipment and services. In addition, there are other programs available through the State of Rhode Island that may provide additional benefits. These can include The RIte Care Program, which provides health insurance for low-income families; the RIte Shares Program, which provides a discount on health care bills; and the Rhode Island Long-Term Care Plan, which provides assistance with long-term care services. There are also a number of state and federal tax credits and deductions available to individuals with disabilities. These can include the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, the Credit for the Elderly or the Disabled, and the disability credit. Finally, there are other state and federal assistance programs available, such as housing assistance programs, food stamps, and subsidized employment programs. If you have a disability and are having difficulty getting by, it is important to contact your local Social Security office to find out what other benefits may be available to you.
