What is a Vocational Rehabilitation Plan?
A Vocational Rehabilitation Plan (VRP) is a plan created to help individuals with a disability in Virginia achieve their career goals. The Virginia Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) administers the program which provides a wide variety of services and resources, such as evaluation services, job training, job placement, case management, counseling, and other support services. The purpose of a VRP is to assist individuals with disabilities, such as physical impairments, cognitive impairments, mental illnesses, or learning disabilities, to gain competitive employment. The VRP helps to identify an individual’s strengths, weaknesses, and resources needed to reach their employment goals. In order to be eligible for a VRP, an individual must meet the following criteria: be a Virginia resident, have a documented disability, demonstrate the ability to benefit from vocational rehabilitation services, and must have an employment goal. In addition, there are several requirements that must be met in order for an individual to remain eligible for the program. VRPs are an important part of disability planning law in Virginia. Through these plans, individuals can gain the resources and support needed to gain competitive employment. The VRP assists individuals by providing them with the needed resources to help them achieve their employment goals.
