What is a HIPP program?

A Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) program is a state-funded program in California designed to help disabled individuals pay for the costs of their health insurance premiums. This program is designed to help protect disabled individuals who may not be able to afford the expensive premiums associated with health insurance plans. In California, individuals who are eligible for Medi-Cal and CalWORKs on the basis of disability can apply to the HIPP program to have their health insurance premiums paid on their behalf. To qualify, you must be a US citizen or a qualified non-citizen, meet the financial requirements of the program, and have a disability that has been approved by Medi-Cal. The HIPP program is an important part of the disability planning law in California. It helps ensure that those with disabilities can access the care that they need and can afford the health insurance premiums that are associated with it. The program also helps to protect disabled individuals from financial ruin due to high health insurance costs. By helping to cover the costs of health insurance premiums, the HIPP program provides an important safety net for disabled individuals in California.
