How do I apply for disability benefits?
In order to apply for disability benefits in North Carolina, you must first speak with a representative from the Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA will review your medical records and other evidence to determine if you meet the eligibility criteria set by the Social Security Act. If you are found to meet these criteria, then you will need to complete an application for disability benefits. This application will be submitted to the SSA, which will determine whether or not you qualify for disability benefits. The application includes a detailed medical history and other evidence of disability such as lab tests, medical and psychological reports, and employment and educational records. After completing the application, you will need to attend a face-to-face interview with an SSA representative. During this interview, the representative will ask you questions about your illness or disability, and any other relevant information about your medical condition. After your application and interview have been reviewed and approved, you will receive disability benefits if you meet the standards set by the Social Security Act. Depending on your disability and the type of benefits you are eligible for, these benefits will generally be paid out in monthly installments until the disability is resolved or you reach the age of retirement. If you have any questions about submitting your application or any other aspects of disability planning law in North Carolina, you can contact the SSA or your local social services office for more information.
