What is a disability review?

A disability review is a process used to evaluate a person’s qualifications for disability benefits in Washington. The process requires a review of the medical records, financial information, and other relevant evidence to determine whether the individual is disabled and needs assistance under the law. During the review, the individual has the right to have an attorney present and to have the right to appeal the decision. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services is responsible for administering the disability review process through the Disability Determinations Services office. The DDS office is responsible for gathering and reviewing all available evidence, including medical and other records, to make a determination on the individual’s disability status. The review process involves a thorough examination of the individual’s medical records and disability-related activities. This includes an evaluation of the individual’s overall functional impairments and how these impairments impact the individual’s physical and mental abilities, social functioning, and daily activities. The disability review process is an essential part of the disability planning law in Washington. It ensures that individuals with a disability receive the benefits they are eligible for and can continue to live a fulfilling life.
