What is the alcohol education program?

The Alcohol Education Program in Pennsylvania is designed to educate people, typically those cited for DUI, on the risks associated with drinking and driving. It is usually a requirement for people who have been arrested for DUI in order to receive their Drivers License. Through educational courses, videos, and/or lectures, participants gain an understanding of the consequences of drinking and driving, safety and responsibility while driving, and the effects of alcohol consumption on the body. The program is designed to teach participants to be responsible for their actions and to become well-informed adults who take full responsibility for themselves. The Alcohol Education Program allows an individual to make better decisions in the future by understanding the social, physical, and financial consequences of making poor choices related to drinking and driving. It is a form of preventative measure to keep underage individuals and those cited for DUI from potentially making the same mistakes again. Participants learn the importance of safe driving, the effects of alcohol on the body, and how to drink responsibly. The Alcohol Education Program not only educates participants on the risks of drinking and driving, but also serves as a punishment for those charged with DUI or a similar alcohol-related offense. By completing the program, participants are showing they are taking responsibility for their actions, and may even be conditionally pardoned for their offense. Completing the Alcohol Education Program also shows an individual’s commitment to changing their ways and learning from their mistakes.
