What are the rules for early voting?

Early voting in California can occur either in person or by mail. In order to early vote in California, all registered voters in the state must first request a mail-in ballot. The request must be made by the Voter Registration Deadline which is 15 days prior to the election date. The request can be made by mail, online, or in person at a designated Early Voting Center. Once the request is made, the voter will receive a ballot in the mail and at the same time will be given information regarding where to return the ballot. For in-person early voting, the voter can also go in person to the designated Early Voting Center which will be open up to 4 days prior to Election Day. When voting in person, the voter must provide either a valid California Driver’s License or Identification Card, as well as proof of residency, such as a utility bill or paycheck. If voting by mail, the ballot must be postmarked and received no later than Election Day. In California, early voting is a convenient way for registered voters to cast a vote prior to the Election Day. It allows voters to avoid long wait times on Election Day and provides more convenience for those who may not be able to make it to the polls. Early voting is a valuable tool for voter participation as it ensures that all voices are heard in the democratic process.
