Are employers allowed to require employees to work outside their contracted hours?
In the state of Washington, employers are generally allowed to require their employees to work outside of their contracted hours. However, there are some instances when employers are not allowed to require employees to work outside of their contracted hours. For instance, if an employee’s contract states that they are required to work specific hours, then employers cannot require them to work beyond those hours. Also, employers are not allowed to ask their employees to work overtime without paying them overtime wages. As such, employers cannot require their employees to work over 40 hours per week without compensating the employee for those additional hours. Furthermore, employers are not allowed to require their employees to work outside of their contractually-agreed upon hours if it would be in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The FLSA protects employees from being asked to work too many hours and provides limits on the number of hours an employer can require their employees to work. In general, employers in the state of Washington are allowed to require their employees to work outside of their contracted hours. However, this cannot be done if it would be in violation of Washington state law or the Fair Labor Standards Act.
