What is the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities?
The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is an international human rights treaty that promotes, protects, and ensures the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by people with disabilities. The treaty was opened for signature in Washington, D.C. in 2006 and was ratified by the United States in 2009. The CRPD gives people with disabilities the same general human rights as those without disabilities.
