What is the International Court of Justice?

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) is a branch of the United Nations (UN) located in The Hague, Netherlands. It is the main judicial branch of the UN and is the only international court that has the power to settle disputes between countries. The ICJ is made up of 15 judges from 15 different countries, serving nine-year terms. With resolution of the Security Council or the General Assembly of the UN, the ICJ can settle legal disputes between countries as well as interpret international law. This court helps to ensure the efficiency of the UN and promote justice and human rights around the world. In the state of Texas, Human Rights Law is extradited by the Texas Department of Public Safety, which is responsible for promoting and protecting human rights both inside and outside the state. The Department works to protect individuals from civil rights abuses, ensure access to government services, protect against discrimination, and promote the safety and well-being of children and youth. Human rights violations are reported to the Department and then placed under its jurisdiction. In addition, the Department offers civil and criminal legal assistance and representation to victims of human rights violations. The ICJ and the Department of Public Safety work together to uphold a standard of human rights throughout the world. The ICJ is responsible for interpreting laws in a way that considers human rights, while the Department of Public Safety is responsible for enforcing the laws and rights in Texas.
