What is a supplemental insurance policy?
A supplemental insurance policy is an additional policy purchased in addition to the standard policy. In California, a supplemental insurance policy is used to cover additional costs due to high out of pocket charges, deductibles, and other unexpected expenses. Supplemental insurance policies are generally more affordable than the standard policy and can be used to cover expenses not covered by the standard policy. Examples of these types of expenses could include travel and medical expenses incurred while away from home, medical expenses related to certain conditions and procedures, and medical expenses due to natural disasters. Supplemental insurance policies can also be purchased to cover particular events that the standard policy does not cover. Examples of these events could include pet-theft coverage, funeral expenses, or additional vehicle repairs for comprehensive and collision coverage. When filing an insurance claim in California, it is important to make sure that any supplemental coverage is included as part of the claim. It is also important to make sure that the supplemental coverage has been approved by the insurance company and that all policies related to the claim are in compliance with California Insurance Claims Law.
