What is an Application for Cancellation of Removal?
An Application for Cancellation of Removal is a form filed with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in order to avoid deportation from Louisiana for non-citizens living in the US. This form gives the applicant the ability to prove eligibility to stay in the US by showing that they have been living in the US for at least 10 years, have been of good moral character, and if their removal would cause extreme hardship to them or a US-citizen family member. The application must be filed with theUSCIS along with supporting documentation that shows the applicant meets the eligibility requirements. This documentation could include proof of identity and legal status, evidence of good moral character, and proof of extreme hardship if the applicant were to be removed from the US. The USCIS will review the application and, if the applicant meets the eligibility requirements, the USCIS will grant them an approved, Cancellation of Removal. This will allow the applicant to remain in the US legally without facing the threat of deportation. This is an important option for many non-citizens living in Louisiana, as it offers them an alternative to deportation. It also allows them to remain in the US with their family members and live and work without fear.
