What is an L-1B visa?
An L-1B visa is a type of temporary work visa available to certain employees of international companies based in the United States. This visa is available for those transferring from a foreign branch, subsidiary, parent, or affiliated company into a U.S. based organization. This type of visa is valid for up to five (5) years and allows its holder to enter and stay in the United States on a temporary basis in order to work. In order to be eligible for an L-1B visa, the applicant must possess specialized knowledge of the company’s product, services, research, equipment, techniques, management, or other interests. In addition to having specialized knowledge, the applicant must be employed and transferring from another branch of the same company abroad. In California, immigrants with an L-1B visa who meet certain requirements may be eligible for an H-1B visa, which allows them to legally work and live in the state. The requirements for eligibility include having a four-year degree in the same field as their job, having experience in their profession, and obtaining an approved labor certification from the U.S. Department of Labor. Overall, the L-1B visa is a type of work visa for employees of international companies that allows them to temporarily stay in the United States. It allows immigrants to transition from foreign transfers into their U.S. based organization. In California, those individuals with an L-1B visa may be eligible for an H-1B visa as long as they meet certain qualifications.
