What is the H-4 visa?
The H-4 visa is a type of visa issued by the U.S. government that allows the spouses and dependents (children under the age of 21) of temporary workers with an H-1B visa to stay in the state of Florida while the H-1B visa holder works. The H-4 visa allows these family members to stay in the country even if their H-1B visa holder changes employers. H-4 visa holders are not allowed to work in the United States, meaning that they are not allowed to seek or accept employment. They are also not eligible for a Social Security card, which is required for employment. However, they are allowed to study in the United States. In addition to the H-4 visa, the U.S. government has also created other visa categories for certain family members of other non-immigrants, such as the H-4E visa for spouses and children of H-1B speciality occupation visa holders. When an individual with an H-4 visa wants to become a permanent resident, they can apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This document will allow them to legally work in the United States. The H-4 visa is a great resource for family members of H-1B visa holders. It provides them with the opportunity to stay in the state of Florida while their family member works, but still allows them to pursue educational opportunities in the U.S.
