What is the difference between a non-immigrant visa and an immigrant visa?

A non-immigrant visa is a visa given to someone who wishes to visit the U.S. temporarily for a purpose such as business, tourism, or to study. Non-immigrant visas are usually valid for a short period of time, such as six months or a year. An immigrant visa, on the other hand, allows someone to settle permanently in the U.S. This type of visa is given to people who wish to become permanent residents of the U.S. and are sponsored by a family member who is already a U.S. citizen or already holds a valid immigrant visa. In California, immigrant visas are also available for family members of U.S. citizens. This includes spouses, children, and parents of U.S. citizens who are over the age of 21. In order to be eligible for an immigrant visa, the family member must meet certain qualifications such as having sufficient financial means to support themselves, having a job offer in the U.S., or having been sponsored by a qualifying family member. The family member must also pass a medical examination and a background check. The main difference between a non-immigrant visa and an immigrant visa is that a non-immigrant visa lets someone stay in the U.S. for a limited period of time while an immigrant visa lets the holder settle permanently in the U.S. and sponsor their family members.
